Il Porcellino (Italian: "piglet") is a famous bronze fountain of a boar in Florence, Italy. Visitors to Il Porcellino put a coin into the boar's jaws, with the intent to let it fall through the underlying grating for good luck, and they rub the boar's snout to ensure a return to Florence. This has kept the snout in a state of polished sheen while the rest of the boar's body has turned brownish-green. This newest version of the fountain is from 2008. The fountain is based on a myth about a couple who couldn't have children but saw pigs playing with children and a fairy granted them the ability to have children. They had a child who looked like a handsome man at night, a pig during the day.
