In this tutorial we are covering the anatomy and branches of the main arteries of the trunk: the thoracic aorta, celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, inferior mesenteric arteries and the common iliac arteries. They are central components of the circulatory system and facilitate the blood flow of oxygenated blood into many different areas of the body.
As you may well know, the aorta is the largest artery in the body. It is responsible for transporting oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body via smaller arteries that branch off of the aorta.
In the full version of this trunk arteries tutorial we will go over:
- Basics of the circulatory system
- Parts of the aorta and coronary arteries
- Celiac trunk location and branches
- Mesenteric arteries location and blood supply
- Bifurcation of the aorta: common iliac arteries
- Clinical notes: atherosclerosis and aneurysm
