I just got the Nest E smart home thermostat. It looks pretty easy to install so I opted to try it without looking at the instructions. At one point, I was pretty sure that I might have fried my furnace. This is my result. This installation was super easy. The only tools you NEED are a couple screw drivers. It would be helpful to have access to a part of needle nose plyers as well. This project is definitely in your wheelhouse, regardless of your experience level.
