Have you ever wondered what it's like to stand on the rim of an explosive volcano? I shot this video on the rim of the Mt. Yasur Volcano located on Tanna Island, Vanuatu. The South Seas Island 1100 miles off the eastern of Brisbane, Australia, is possibly the only place in the world where non-scientists are still allowed to hike to the rim of an active volcano. Mt. Yasur has been erupting for hundreds of years. Captain Cook observed the stratovolcano from his ship in 1774. The volcano has erupted so consistently that it has been nicknamed "the lighthouse of the pacific." You can see and hear what it's like to stand on an erupting volcano by watching this video. When you're there, you feel shock waves, heat blasts, and wind blowing away from then toward the site of the explosion. At times, you also smell smoke and sulfur and other minerals in the rock. It's exciting to be where new land is being created right before your eyes! Getting to Tanna Island and the volcano isn't easy, but it's more than worth the effort. The people are wonderful, and the food and accomodations at the White Grass Resort were spectacular. This video was shot by Larry Richardson for RichardsonArtPhotographyStore.com using a Sony RX100iii camera.
